The Philippine cluster of the Eastern Regional Organization for Planning & Human Settlements (EAROPH) hosted its 3rd Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program at Dexterton Corporation’s showroom in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on November 23, 2024. The event, which followed EAROPH Philippines’ usual hybrid format, gathered approximately 40 in-person guests and over 130 online participants from various regions and professional fields. Officially titled “Prevention & Preparedness Through Design: Keys to Mitigate Vulnerability Within Structures and the Community,” the seminar aimed to bring together industry practitioners to foster meaningful discussions on designing resilient communities in the face of disaster.
EAROPH is a non-governmental and multi-sectoral organization founded in 1956 and has long been dedicated to improving the quality of life and sustainability of human settlements in Asia and Australasia. The organization, through its local clusters like EAROPH Philippines, holds initiatives including technical exchanges, international networking, and regional conferences to reach professionals and inspire them to strive for excellence in sustainable and culturally sensitive urban planning and development.
EAROPH Philippines’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Seminars, targeted toward professionals from various fields, including architecture, environmental planning, civil engineering, master plumbing, and real estate, are among EAROPH’s local community initiatives. These seminars offer Filipino attendees CPD accreditation points, which can be used to renew PRC licenses. The recent CPD event held at Dexterton BGC is among these accredited events and ran from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. It featured an impressive program lineup, complete with three keynote speakers and a moderated panel discussion.
The seminar opened with a warm welcome from United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) President Ar. Idr. Marian Eileen F. Marudo, who also kicked off the event’s program and sparked its interactive atmosphere. This energy carried throughout the rest of the forum as three distinguished resource speakers graced the stage and delved into key topics on disaster resilience and sustainable practices. This lineup included Engr. Rey Michael Tagaro, who shared his insights on “Building Resilience through Circular Design”; Ar. Joan D. Tabinas, who showcased her expertise on “360 Systematic Thinking”; and Lt. Cdr. Ferdinand A. Juan, who explored the pressing issue of “Disaster Resilience: Can Metro Manila Recover after The Big One?”
These topics were further explored through a moderated panel discussion led by award-winning Architect Cathy Saldana. Experts and event attendees alike participated in a lively back-and-forth, which highlighted meaningful insights on how design, technology, and sustainable industry practices can build safer and disaster-ready communities.
UAP President Ar. Joy C. Villar then took the stage to deliver her closing remarks, which signaled the culmination of the seminar proper. Afterward, attendees who participated in the event face-to-face were treated to an exclusive showroom tour of Dexterton Corporation’s BGC showroom, a filmed version of which was showcased virtually for online attendees.
Headed by the company’s sales representatives, Dexterton’s signature tour allowed participants to see firsthand the high-quality products and designs that have made Dexterton a key player in the luxury home furnishings industry and a reliable partner in shaping the future of design and development. After the tours, participants were encouraged to get to know each other, share insights, and build deeper connections during a networking session over dinner, once again showcasing Dexterton Corporation’s commitment to fostering professional growth, community development, and collaboration through strong partnerships.
